February Photo A Day Challenge

Time for something new!
I love photography but often get caught up in trying to take the perfect shot or Photoshop processing and sometimes it takes the enjoyment away so I'm participating in the Fatmumslim February Photo A Day challenge and posting them to my blog ... just for fun. Let me know if you join up too.

Paper2 @ the Beach

I took the kids to the beach this week and coincidently (or not) we were very close to Paper2 in Mornington. I didn't plan on going there, especially with kids in tow but I thought if I had time and model children I'd try my luck. After meeting up with a lovely friend for a chat and a delicious lunch (right after we saved a very injured bird from an indefinite slow and painful death), I took a quick detour.

Paper2 is a paper crafter paradise claiming to be the largest of it's kind in Australia. They stock a LOT of stuff and although they have a great lounge area with television and coffee machine for the adult kids, the play area was needing some love and only kept the kids entertained for a short time.

The products in the store are categorized mostly by manufacturer which for me is a great way to shop. My purchases for the day weren't really that thrilling, a grand total of $19.50 but I really needed more paper like a hole in the head. Actually the great thing about being a former scrap-booker turned paper-crafter is the cost savings. It really is a more budget friendly hobby for me.

Mini Paper Blooms by Kaiser (Honey)

Obviously I was in a Kraft mood looking at the colour scheme I chose.
My Minds Eye Kraft Funday Everyday Fun is a yummy paper range, perfect for the stamper with patterns that aren't too heavy so I purchased a 6x6 paper pad featuring 24 double-sided kraft cardstock designs.

These 3 sheets of paper will make great embellishments. Rather than buy expensive pre-packaged items or die-cuts I am always on the look out for 12x12 paper that has lots of elements that can be cut out and used on trading cards, mini books, greeting cards and the like.

Who doesn't love a 2 for 1 deal with extra patterns printed on the reverse? Making such tiny projects, paper lasts me a long time so it's great to be able to co-ordinate and reuse.

Inchie Paradise

I don't meant to alarm anyone with 3 posts in one week but creativity comes in spurts, I'm sure you understand. This little Saffron container makes a great Inchie project. So good in fact I think I need to stock up on Saffron. If you've never heard of Inchies and would like to learn more about them, PaperCraftCentral have a great tell-all article.

I started by using a 1" punch and cutting out various backgrounds from good quality magazines.
In most of my magazine projects I use Shop Til You Drop and Real Living magazines because the paper is thick quality, has lots of tiny images, lots of colour, vintage and odds and ends to cut out.

I gathered appropriately sized images and words

Cut and paste and voila ...

So much fun!

Hotel Keycard Booklet

As promised .... my junk collection is turning beautiful. This is using the Hotel Keycard which was pictured in the top left of my previous post and was quickly given a new lease of life by using the gorgeous Kaiser Sweet Nothings 6x6 pad and the Darkroom Door Love Birds and Tick Tock rubber stamps.

It might look time consuming but it was transformed very quickly.

Darkroom Door (Tick Tock)
Darkroom Door (Love Birds)
Darkroom Door Background Stamp (Scratches)
Darkroom Door Montage (London & Prague)
Darkroom Door Wordstrips (Prague Vol2)
Distress Inks for distressing edges
Distress Glossy Accents
Distress Rock Candy Crackle
Kindy Glitz
Versafine (Onyx)
Archival Ink (Coffee)
Tags (Size 4+8 Buff)
Pattern Paper (Kaiser Sweet Nothings 6x6 pad)
Various ribbons and flowers
Heart chipboard

I simply cut out patterned paper to cover the panels and collage stamped the pieces using Love Birds and Tick Tock with the Onyx and Coffee inkpads. Then I distressed them before sticking them to the Keycard.
I used Rock Candy crackle and Kindy Glitz on the flowers, Montage images and Wordstrips.
I stamped the Love Birds onto a loveheart shaped chipboard piece and distressed the edges. I covered it with Distress Glossy Accents and left it to dry overnight.
To make the tags, I covered each one with patterned paper and collage stamped them with the Tick Tock and Love Birds rubber stamp sets again. I heat embossed the smaller tags using clear sparkle embossing powder then finished them off by decorating them with ribbon offcuts.

Bad Recycling Blogger

Hi Peeps, sorry I have neglected my blog. No excuses !

So my challenge for the New Year is recycle recycle recycle. There is nothing more rewarding than creating something beautiful and crafty from junk! Not to mention the cost savings! So I'm currently working on recycling old magazines aswell as turning stuff collected from Hotels, Jewellery boxes and other odds and ends into something funky. Stay tuned!
